Pysanky Egg Basics

Learn how to design and create a batik dyed Pysanky Egg with traditional tools.

Learn how to design, apply black bees wax using a traditional kistka tool and batik dye beautiful Pysanky Eggs. In this course we will go through 4 different style, star formation, horiztonal grids, geometric folk, and organic design by sketching on the provided egg template. Then you will learn how to use your kitska tool and the approach for wax resisting and dyeing your egg. I've included a quick overview for egg blowing should you like to try that. Pysanky Eggs are great decor all year round and are a soothing way to spend an evening.

Supplies needed for class:

  • Batik Egg Dyes (light to dark colours - at least 2-3)
  • Kistka Traditional Tool (Medium or Heavy Tip to start)
  • Black Bees Wax
  • A Candle
  • Containers for your dye
  • Vinegar (to clean your egg and to add to dyes per the instruction packages)
  • Pencil
  • Paper Towel
